With the runway shows in Paris having officially wrapped yesterday, the runways in the City of Light have given us a glimpse of the most eye-catching designs for Fall 2018. From sleek ladylike luxury at Louis Vuitton to bold statement outerwear at Givenchy, the French catwalks certainly did not disappoint. For a closer peek at the runways, check out our roundup on the top looks from Paris Fashion Week Fall 2018.
At Louis Vuitton, creative director Nicolas Ghesquière featured a spaceship theme which managed to look both futuristic and vintage at the same time. Models strut down the catwalk wearing outfits which had a sci-fi, Star Wars-esque vibe, in the form of sharp navy blue jackets and matching skirts. Other than wool skirt suits, the look of metallic embroidery, power shoulders and strappy blouses layered over knit sweaters also made a splash. Pops of yellow and bold houndstooth prints also brought life to the collection, and created visual interest.
Major Looks: Space and sci-fi theme, metallic touches, hints of yellow
Creative director Karl Lagerfeld brought forest vibes to the Chanel runway, with models wandering down a catwalk which was reminiscent of the great outdoors in the fall. Besides the look of crunchy leaves, the Chanel aesthetic involved peplum blazers, loose long jackets and double-breasted coats. From the classic tweed of the luxury fashion house to vibrant wrapped scarves and printed boyfriend blazers, the collection was a mix of old time favourites and contemporary chic.
Major Looks: Peplum coats, classic tweed, boyish outerwear
At Miu Miu, designer Miuccia Prada turned to the 1950s and 60s for her sartorial inspiration. From boxy neutral coats to high-waisted trousers and a slick red mod dress, the collection was a mix of colours and textures. Meanwhile, belted pleather coats, fitted patterned frocks and playful polka dots also enjoyed a moment on the runway.
Major Looks: Boxy outerwear, mod dresses, vintage feel, old school patterns
Clare Waight Keller, the recently minted creative director at Givenchy, dressed models in oversized faux fur toppers which were cinched at the waist with pleather belts. From rich shades of brown to basic black, these coats were certainly a statement look. Meanwhile, black and white checkered prints livened up three-quarter length coats, with a few silky pleated frocks and sheer lace dresses for a feminine feel.
Major Looks: Faux fur, pleather, lace and barely there dresses
